A Woman’s Guide on How to Abide

abide_logoWow!  What an honor to be the speaker at Family in Christ women’s retreat at the beautiful Mount Vernon Country Club in Golden.

We spent the entire day talking about what I consider to be one of the most important spiritual disciplines and the foundation of our relationship with God, abiding.

Abiding is “to keep up a habit of constant close communion with Him-to be always leaning on Him, resting in Him, pouring out our hearts to Him, and using Him as our foundation of life and strength, as our chief companion and very best friend.”

Based on scripture in John 15, Matthew 11 and Psalm 46 we looked at the reasons we don’t abide (such as our expectation that God won’t speak to us or our desire to life for God instead of with God, plus many more.) We learned how to talk to God and how to hear His voice.  We learned how to ask God questions that He longs to answer.  We looked at the striving in our lives that wears us out and keeps us from abiding.  We learned how to cease striving and yoke to Jesus.  We learned about Christian mindfulness and abiding prayer, Lectio Davina.

Here’s a little quiz to test your own abiding:

  • Do you wake up and say “Good Morning” to Him or do you just think about Him or talk about Him but ignore His presence?
  • Do you read your Bible with Him expecting Him to explain it to you instead of figuring it our for yourself?
  • Do you wash the dishes with God?
  • Do you walk the dog with God?
  • Do you sing in the car with God?
  • Do you balance your checkbook with God?
  • Do you rest with God?

If you want to learn more about abiding and practical ideas for making Jesus relevant to every area of your life, you can buy the 2 CD collection ($15) of the retreat:  Abide in His Words & Abide in His Rest.  Email me at DaleMWilsher@gmail.com to order and use the PayPal button on my website to pay.

If your church or group is looking for a speaker for your next event, I’d love to share about this important topic, and how you can encourage and challenge your women to abide in Christ.

Thanks Family in Christ!  It was a wonderful day to see God at work in lives of His women!
